Angels in the Outfield Recap!

Visiting Teaching?
What do a baseball movie and visiting teaching have in common?

Rich Harris was the speaker for this baseball-themed RS Birthday Dinner.
The room was decorated with baseball paraphernalia.

After a  pitcher's mound of BBQ Ribs and Salads...with ice cream sandwiches for dessert...it was time for a little coaching/instruction.

Bro. Harris showed a clip of the movie..."Angels in the Outfield."
As visiting teachers we learned that we are all angels in the outfield
as we help the sisters around us.
He spoke of his mother's illness and her desire to finish her visiting teaching...even with only days left to live.

Our RS Team Captains.
They have all our bases covered.

"Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack..."
Everyone went home with Cracker Jack and a thought.

Our beautiful Mount Timpanogos Temple.
How often I see it shining at the base of the mountain.

Temple Covenants
"The saving ordinances received in the temple that permit us to someday return to our Heavenly Father in an eternal family relationship and to be endowed with blessings and power from on high are worth every sacrifice and every effort," said President Thomas S. Monson.  If you have not yet been to the temple, you can prepare to receive sacred temple ordinances by:
  • Believing in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
  • Cultivating a testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ an the restored Gospel
  • Sustaining and following the living prophet.
  • Qualifying for a temple recommend by paying tithing, being morally clean, being honest, keeping the Word of Wisdom, and living in harmony with the teachings of the Church.
  • Giving time, talents, and means to help build the Lord's kingdom.
  • Participating in family history work.
President Monson further taught, "As we remember the covenants we make within [the temple], we will be more able to bear every trial and overcome each temptation."

The Nauvoo Temple...1840s
When the Nauvoo temple was dedicated, thousands of Saints came to receive their temple covenants.  Even though they would be leaving soon on their westward exodus, the people knew that the strength and power of these temple blessings would sustain them on their journey.  Without these covenants, the difficult journey would have been...in the words of one sister who was a temple worker..."like one taking a leap in the dark."

Sister Spotlight...Emily Johnson!

Sister Spotlight!
We wish a warm welcome to Emily Johnson and her husband Shaun.  They have recently moved into our ward and we are so excited to have Emily in Relief Society.  Emily has two young sons, Lincoln (4), Tanner (2), and a baby due on Labor Day.

Emily grew up in Grantsville, Utah.  Her most desired travel destination would be a trip to Washington D.C. with her husband someday.  Among Emily's many interests are sewing, teaching, reading...and chocolate!  Her favorite holidays are Valentines Day and the 4th of July...but her favorite holiday tradition is dressing up for Halloween.

What's sweeter than a box of chocolates?  Valentine chocolates...with kittens!

Emily has many fine character traits...she is known to be very patient and loving.  She also finds the humor in life.  She relates an experience when she went to Shaun's new job on his first day of work to take some documents to the main office.  Before she could even introduce herself, her 20 month old threw up all over her.  Talk about first impressions!

She has a testimony of the Savior's love and how it helped her a few years ago when her father passed away.  We are so happy you are in our ward, Emily, and hope you make many great friendships and memories here.  We appreciate your friendliness and sweet, out-going personality.

February Visiting Teaching Message...

"Converted Unto the Lord"

New sisters of the Church...including Young Women entering Relief Society, sisters returning to activity, and new converts...need the support and friendship of visiting teachers.  In what ways do we serve each sister we watch over so that she knows we truly care about her?

Reminder:  Birthday Breakfast!
Who?  All those sisters with January and February Birthdays!
When?  Saturday, February 9
What time?  9:00 a.m.
Where?  Dallas Harris's house!

Family History Info...

How grows your Family Tree?

I have received some handouts from the family history class taught by DeAnn and Chris Ellingson at the Stake Relief Society Conference last month.  I will be creating a tab at the top of the page that will link to a page where Family History information will be stored for your convenience.  In a day or two I will add the Family History Centers and Family Tree Training classes handouts to that tab.

Thank you, Dear Sisters, for your visits and support while I get this blog whipped into shape!

Birthdays are special...we all want to celebrate!  Look on the sidebar on the right and you will see the list of special days for February.  There will be a birthday breakfast on February 9 at 9:00 a.m. at Dallas Harris's home for those Sisters who have a birthday in January and February.  An updated invitation will be sent out. What a fun idea!  Please contact Tracy at continotracy@hotmail.com with any questions.

January Birthdays
Since there are still a few days left in January, please remember Dorothy Spackman on the 23rd, Wendy Taylor on the 28th and Diane Abplanalp on the 31st.

Women's Health...Self Defense
A few of the women in our ward have been taking a self-defense course.  The course is a monthly 4-week class for women and teens 13 and older that teaches valuable life-saving techniques.  The next classes begin on February 6.  The course runs each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and is only $15 for the four weeks.  I do not know the location, but you can contact Robyn @ 801-471-5125 if interested.  This would be a great  mother/daughter activity...or friend/friend!

We are Strong and Confident Women!

Hello!  Have you heard the news?

Until next time...
