Micki's EZ 5 Minute Homespun Olive Oil Mayo!

Micki's Homemade Mayo
I want to thank Micki Sannar for helping us get the recipe ball rolling by submitting this wonderful recipe for homemade mayonnaise.  This recipe uses heart-healthy extra virgin olive oil.  Visit Micki's blog Olive Oil Chic for information on the preservatives and additives that may be in store-bought mayonnaise.

EZ 5 Minute Homespun Olive Oil Mayo
Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (mild flavor)
  • 1 large egg
  • a pinch of sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp white or cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard (I like Honey Dijon)
  • 1 tsp very hot water
Preparation:
Add 1/4 cup of olive oil with all other ingredients (except hot water) and begin blending on low speed.  Increase speed to medium, and slowly add remaining olive oil.  Continue blending until mixture begins to look thick.  Slowly drizzle hot water, blend for another 30 seconds, until smooth and creamy.  Pour into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

This recipe yields 1 cup of mayonnaise.  Need more?  No problem.  This recipe can be easily
 doubled.

Note:  If you miss a recipe post, Sisters, there will be a button at the top of the blog for a page where the recipes will be archived.

I am still working on the appearance and format of this blog.  A few days ago I mentioned that there is a "Comment" box at the bottom of the blog.  To get to the box...simply click on the highlighted words "No Comments" (or however many comments there might be) at the bottom of the post.  I hope you will take the time to leave a comment or two.  Bloggers love to get feedback from their readers.

Dear Sisters...Our Blogs
On the sidebar you will find the beginnings of a list of blogs written by the women in this ward.  If you have a blog that you would like to add to the list, please let me know.  You may get more followers from your friends and neighbors in the ward!  If you are not a blogger...you may be amazed to find how easy it is to get started on Google Blogger.  I use my blog, Zetta's Aprons to write my personal stories and family history...in addition to my crafts and other interests.

Thank you, Sisters for visiting this blog.  There have been almost 100 visits in the last few days...amazing!

Birthday Breakfast Update!

Birthday Breakfast!
Birthdays are special...we all want to celebrate!  Look on the sidebar on the right and you will see the list of special days for February.  There will be a birthday breakfast on February 9 at 9:00 a.m. at Dallas Harris's home for those Sisters who have a birthday in January and February.  An updated invitation will be sent out. What a fun idea!  Please contact Tracy at continotracy@hotmail.com with any questions.

January Birthdays
Since there are still a few days left in January, please remember Dorothy Spackman on the 23rd, Wendy Taylor on the 28th and Diane Abplanalp on the 31st.

Women's Health...Self Defense
A few of the women in our ward have been taking a self-defense course.  The course is a monthly 4-week class for women and teens 13 and older that teaches valuable life-saving techniques.  The next classes begin on February 6.  The course runs each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and is only $15 for the four weeks.  I do not know the location, but you can contact Robyn @ 801-471-5125 if interested.  This would be a great  mother/daughter activity...or friend/friend!

Reminder...Highland Stake Relief Society Conference!

"Putting On The Whole Armor of God..."
Sisters, don't forget to attend the Highland Stake Relief Society Conference this Saturday, January 26.  The Relief Society presidency sent out the teacher bios in an email yesterday, suggesting that you plan in advance which classes you would like to attend.  The conference will begin at 9 a.m.  Please be there by 8:45.  Lunch will be served from 12-1 p.m.  This conference sounds amazing! Our spirits will be fed as well as our bodies.

Please remember to bring a white shirt and gently used necktie!

This blog is still a work in progress...but I just know that we Sisters have a lot we can share with each other.  Please add Shirley Hatfield to your Facebook Friends list...I will be posting updates to this blog on my wall and news feed.

Thank you, Dear Sisters,

Welcome to Dear Sisters...

Dear Sisters...
Isn't that a nice title?  It's like getting a letter from a dear friend.  There is something gracious about a hand written letter or card.  In this world of instant everything...emails, messages, Facebook...the art of writing a letter is almost extinct.  That is why I picked the title, "Dear Sisters..." I hope this blog...created for you, my dear Highland 12th Ward Sisters...will be something you can read and share and contribute to.

Some of the things that will be included here are:

  • Monthly Presidency Message
  • Monthly Sister Spotlight
  • Announcements/Additional Meetings
  • Monthly Birthday List
In addition to Relief Society items...there will be topics that you will be able to contribute to...such as Recipes, Women's Health, Holidays and Traditions, Family History and Preparedness.  I hope you will visit often and contribute your thoughts and comments...there will also be a comment box at the bottom of each post.  Please email me at marieutah@aol.com, if there are any questions or things you would like to share or see here.  Also...on the right hand side of this post there is "Friends and Followers".  Please click and join this site as a follower.

With love,
Shirley Hatfield

Happy Valentines!
